1980 Volkswagen Dasher
Here it is folks, the Holy Grail of Hatchbacks. I exaggerate a bit, but this is a rare one to be sure. The Dasher was the top of the line Volkswagen of its day – known as the Passat in the rest of the world. You may recognize that name, but not the body style. The last Passat hatchback was sold in the US in the mid 80s.
So to see one for sale in such pristine condition is a treat. This oh-so-period-correct beige over brown 5-door has lived its life in Arizona, hopefully preventing the spread of the evil tinworm that so often ultimately consumes non-collector vehicles of this era.
Of course, if you’re lucky enough to possess such a vehicle, it may be difficult to part with it… which I believe explains the Buy-it-Now price of a whopping $8,500.
Yes, it’s in great shape. But are you going to drive it daily? Or park it and just bring it out on the weekends? Because if you’re going to use it as a daily driver, I can point to literally hundreds of better choices than this beauty on ebay alone. If you’re buying it to have asa collectible… well, let’s be friends because you have impeccable taste and a lot of open garage space.
